What does it take to be a successful Preferred Shipping Agent?
It takes not only being a good sales rep but also the ability to be focused on selling. You will be not only representing Preferred Shipping but also DHL and other LTL carriers so your approach will be one of total professionalism. Daily Field Sales and strong follow up activities are important. Although it certainly is easier if you already have current established freight customer relationships if you are hardworking and good at sales you can be very successful. The upside of being a Preferred Shipping Agent is limited only by your sales and customer service capabilities.
What does it Cost to Become a Preferred Shipping Agent?
Not very much out of pocket expense is required. There are no agent or franchise fees. You will need to have a cell phone like an iPhone/Blackerry, a computer, a desk, reliable transportation etc. You can definitely start by off icing out of your home.
Preferred Shipping will provide your first box of business cards, sales literature proofs, etc. There will be customized customer flyers, rate sheets etc. that will need to be reproduced.
What kind of Training is supplied by Preferred Shipping?
Preferred Shipping will address all of your training needs by individual phone conference, Webinars, and field training in Houston if desired. You will have access to training and other agent specific materials at all times downloaded on our Agent – Intranet site.
Why should I seriously consider representing Preferred Shipping as compared to other 3PL’s?
Preferred Shipping has been in business for 17 plus years representing DHL Express as their oldest authorized reseller and also as a Freight 3PL with a state-of-the-art TMS system. As a Preferred Shipping Agent will I be constrained to a certain geographical area?
No, you can sell anywhere you want. We suggest that you focus primarily on the freight market closest to you however, if you have an opportunity in another city or state you can pursue.
Are there Rules of Engagement with DHL and Preferred’s LTL partners?
Yes there are. Preferred Shipping operates to put on additional International business for DHL and must submit all accounts for approval prior to granting rates and/or shipping privileges to its customers. Also, there are Rules of Engagement for our LTL partners primarily to make sure that we do not interfere with strong established freight relationships. We will discuss the specifics of theses Rule later.
How will I interact with the Preferred Shipping office?
You will be able to access our office for sales support, customer issues, billing issues etc. that you come across. You will receive you own Preferred Shipping Agent E-mail address. Our office is dedicated to sales and customer support. We will work very hard to address whatever your needs are timely. You will submit all of your new account information to our office and we will set your customers up in our state-of-the-art billing and web shipping system. You will receive back from us valid account numbers and you will then demo and work to close your customers. Again, the Preferred Shipping office and sales support team is totally structured to support you and your customers.
How will I know when my customers ship?
You will receive an E-mailed weekly sales report. Also, it is customary for our office to E-mail you immediately upon us becoming aware of any new shipper. If a significant sales opportunity comes up we will immediately e-mail you, which you should get even if you are in the field.
How are Preferred Shipping Agents compensated?
Preferred Shipping agents are considered independent contractors and are compensated on a percentage of actual customer gross profit. Preferred Shipping agents will continue to receive this compensation on all customer gross profit for as long as they are an active agent and hit minimum sales targets.
How will I get my Agent Check with Backup?
You will receive an Agent Check on Invoiced shipments every two weeks. For example, all shipments invoiced from the 1 – 15th will be sent overnight to you no later than the 20th. All shipments invoiced from the 20 – 31st. will be sent out overnight no later than the 5th.  A full customer backup spreadsheet will accompany every agent check.

How are Preferred Shipping’s ISR’s compensated?

Preferred Shipping ISR’s are considered IC’s (independent contractors) and are compensated on a percentage of actual customer gross profit. Preferred Shipping also introduces Sales Activation Bonuses during the year to assist ISR’s in gaining traction. Preferred Shipping’s ISR’s will continue to receive compensation twice a month on all customer gross profit for as long as they are an actively engaged ISR. ISRs will be paid based on when the shipment is invoiced, not when the invoice is paid.

The financial upside of being a Preferred Shipping ISR is limited only by your sales efforts and level of engagement.

What does it Cost to Become a Preferred Shipping ISR?

No upfront costs or fees. There are no upfront agent or franchise fees. You will need to have a cell phone like an iPhone/Blackerry, a fairly new computer, a desk, reliable transportation etc. You can definitely office out of your home.

Preferred Shipping will provide most of what you need including Business Cards, Sales Literature, Vetted Sales Leads, Customized Value Proposition Flyers, Rate Sheets, and State-of -the- Art Customer and Sales Technology including Live Shipment Viewing and Reporting.

What kind of Training is supplied by Preferred Shipping?

Preferred Shipping will address all of your training needs by individual phone conference, group and 1 on 1 Webinars, and field training and blitzes if desired. You will have access to training and other ISR specific materials at all times downloaded on our ISR – Intra-Web site. Preferred Shipping expends significant resources training our ISR Network. We are committed to supporting the best trained Reps in the industry.

Many of our ISR’s have relationships in multiple cities and we encourage and support all appropriate sales activities.

Are there Rules of Engagement with DHL and Preferred’s LTL partners?

Yes there are. Preferred Shipping operates to put on additional International business for DHL and must submit all accounts for query approval prior to granting rates and/or shipping privileges to its customers. Also, there are Rules of Engagement for our LTL partners primarily to make sure that we do not interfere with strong established freight relationships. We will discuss the specifics of these Rules later in more detail.

How will I interact with the Preferred Shipping office?

You will be able to access our office for sales support, customer issues, billing issues etc. that you come across. You will receive you own Preferred Shipping  E-mail address. Our office is dedicated to sales and customer support. We will work very hard to address whatever your needs are timely. You will submit all of your new account query information to our office and we will clear your accounts and set your customers up in our state-of-the-art billing and web shipping system called REMS. You will receive back from us valid account numbers and LOGIN  and PASSWORDS so you can demo our Shipping Technology and work to close your customers. Again, the Preferred Shipping office and sales support team is totally structured to support you and your customers.

How will I know when my customers ship?

You will be able to view “Live” your DHL Outbound Shipments processed on our PSCSHIP  Technology. Also, other DHL technology can be used to track all your DHL Inbound Shipments. Also, it is customary for our office to E-mail you immediately upon us becoming aware of any new shipper. If a significant sales opportunity comes up we will immediately e-mail or call you so we can work as a team to capture the business.

 

How will I get my ISR Check with Backup?

You will receive an ISR Check or Direct Deposit on Invoiced shipments twice a month.  For example, all shipments invoiced from the 1 – 15th will be sent to you no later than the 20th. All shipments invoiced from the 15 – 31st. will be sent out no later than the 5th.  A full customer backup spreadsheet will accompany every ISR check.
